The Circle: Influence

A strategy game about information, trust, and power – where what you don't know can destroy you

Game Mechanics

The Circle is a social strategy game for 3-4 players (15-30 minutes) that explores information asymmetry as its core mechanic. Each player's hand constitutes secret information that others need – deciding what to play when determines the outcome.

Trust Architectures

Building (temporary?) alliances without knowing who to trust

Progressive Disclosure

Information is revealed gradually throughout the game

Constraint-Driven Design

Only 2 point value cards, a few action based cards and the missions to motivate your play

ARG Experience

The game has a digital ARG (Alternate Reality Game) campaign running parallel to the physical game. Players can explore The Circle's universe via circleinfluence.com – a terminal-based web experience with hidden documents, character profiles, and secret communication.

Discovery Paths

The ARG can be discovered through 8 hidden entry points spread across 3 platforms (DigTek.app, Morgenbadet.no, CircleInfluence.com) – from obvious links to expert-level hidden hints.

One More Thing

Did we mention it already? The game also comes with its own iOS companion app, to keep track of score while playing, but also gleaming insights into the universe in which the game takes place.

Self-regulation through design, not discipline

Folkevett

Wisdom from observing how things actually work

Trivsel

Flourishing in relation to physical environment

Koselig

Pleasantly imperfect, comfortable without being optimal

"Your life, as currently constructed, is optimized for something. The question is: what?"

Morgenbadet

A Norwegian-language blog about technology and life's vicissitudes. "Iskalde grøss, eller forfriskende og oppkvikkende" (icy shivers, or refreshing and invigorating) – long, reflective essays exploring philosophy, paradoxes, and personal experiences.
